安価な家庭用ルータよりも信頼性が高く、そこそこ機能があり、しかしUPnP 機能のない古い業務用ルータを利用している家庭ユーザが、 Skype などのUPnP機能を使うソフトウェアを手軽に使えるように、UPnP要求、応答を処理するUPnP Proxyプログラムを用意し、そこから外部スクリプトで telnet, console シリアル経由でルータのコマンドインターフェイスにアクセスをして UPnP要求に答えるようにルータ設定を実時間で変更しようというものです。

サンプル外部スクリプト例として、CISCO IOS風のCLIを使うNEC IX2015 用スクリプトを用意しています。

Powerful SOHO or Small-business UPnP-less routers that can be configured via TELNET can be used for Skype and other tools that require UPnP using this UPnP Proxy that handles UPnP request and response and configures the routers accordingly.

Such routers include NEC Univerge IX2015 router that has an old-fashioned CISCO IOS-like CLI that can be accessed by serial console or TELNET. A script that talks to IX2015 is prepared so that it can be configured by Skype and other UPnP-aware applications.
